Prayer, Trusting God with Your Story

Receiving God’s Touch

I wonder how often you and I have received God’s touch, but we never knew it was Him.

In response to my recent blog “Three Ways to Hear God’s Voice,” I heard from Darcy, a beautiful woman I met several years ago and with whom I shared a heart connection.

Darcy informed me she is battling stage 4 colon cancer! She said she is hearing from God “very, very clearly” and she shared with me her recent experience of receiving God’s touch.

Her story slammed my life into perspective once again and I’m sharing it with you, with her permission, to encourage you that God knows when we most need to hear His voice and feel His healing touch.

Darcy says, “I have many stories of how God has whispered to me to talk to that particular person in the chemo room, or how He has nudged me for over a year to speak up that our church (of over 4000 members) doesn’t have anything to support cancer patients like me.” (Darcy’s church is now starting a support group for cancer patients so no one has to go through cancer alone.)

But in addition to God’s “whispers” on her heart, Darcy recently felt God’s touch.

“I just had a brain scan because doctors thought the cancer had spread to my brain.  Needless to say, I was anxious because they were concerned and sent me immediately after one of my infusions.  During the scan I had so many thoughts and songs going through my head, including the words “the power that raised Jesus from the grave, lives in you!”  I started “warfare praying.”

“During my 45-minute scan, when no one was in the room, I felt a physical touch on my leg through my blanket.  I immediately questioned myself: Did I really feel that?

“Then I felt another touch!  Then I immediately envisioned Jesus standing over my MRI machine touching my leg and telling me that everything was going to be alright.

“I questioned the tech to see if anyone was in my room at all during the scan.  She said no one was ever in the room during my scan.  When I got back to my oncologist’s office for the results about 15 minutes later, everything was clear!  I said to the nurse that I thought that from the beginning and my husband said that wasn’t the case. He really felt that there was going to be something that was going to show up but because of my warfare praying, God healed me!  Isn’t that cool?  I just had to share that because not only does HE whisper to me, I truly believe that I felt HIS healing touch!

“I’m not sure how much time God has for me on this earth, but I am praying that the doctors are not correct!  I have an operation to remove part of my lung on Nov. 2 and may be looking at lifetime chemo.  I’m hoping to keep the cancer at bay long enough to lengthen my life.  I want to see my son graduate from high school, see future grandkids, maybe see my son get married…..Only God knows!”

After Darcy’s email, suddenly the things I concerned myself with this week didn’t seem as important in the scope of eternity: Our checking account balance, the check that still hadn’t arrived in the  mail, the stack of work on my desk, a comment from a friend that rubbed me the wrong way.

Lord, in You we live and breathe and have our being (Acts 17:28). Forgive me for concerning myself with things that are of little importance in the scope of eternity. Thank You for life, health, and Your precious voice and healing touch just when we need it most.

Will you join me in praying for Darcy’s lung surgery on Nov. 1 — that only a small part of the lobe will be removed and that it won’t be too invasive? Thank you for your prayers ….our God hears.

So beautiful, I have no words.

I’m copying this (Lord, in You we live and breathe and have our being (Acts 17:28). Forgive me for concerning myself with things that are of little importance in the scope of eternity. Thank You for life, health, and Your precious voice and healing touch just when we need it most.) to put in “God’s Whispers to a Woman’s Heart”, my precious daily devotional. Thank you, Cindi.
