What’s Your Impossible?

Blog quote - difficultWhat seems impossible that you are waiting upon God to accomplish?

While we can easily be hating the waiting, I encourage you to embrace the adventure of waiting upon God for your “impossible.” When we are in the midst of waiting, God is often in the midst of doing His best work.

When God told 99-year-old Abraham that his 90-year-old wife would conceive and bear a child — within a year — his wife laughed at the possibility.

But it wasn’t just a possibility. It was a promise. And God wasn’t smiling at Sarah’s reception of his promise as a joke.

God’s response to her unbelief was:

“Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14).

God seems to specialize in doing the difficult, arranging the impossible, accomplishing the unfathomable. The only problem is, we don’t like being in the portion of His project where everything still looks difficult, impossible, and unfathomable. Yet, while we’re waiting, God is building in us a dependence on Him and a better idea of what it means to trust in His timing.

Here are some of the “impossibles” that I’m waiting upon God for right now:

* A full-time job for my husband in a field where he is working part time and there are currently “no full-time openings.”

* A living situation for my daughter, near her work, so she doesn’t have to make a daily commute in Southern California traffic that could last anywhere from 1 1/4 to 2 hours!

* Inspiration and ability to complete a difficult book to write in what seems like an impossible amount of time.

It’s easy to pray for the possible and the probable:

Lord bless our food and the conversation around this table.

Lord, do your will in the life of my child.

Lord heal me of this cold quickly so I can return to work.

But how often do we give God a challenge that represents what He really CAN do?

How often do we pray for the seemingly impossible, remembering God’s words: “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?”

I want my prayers to be consistent with how big of a God He is, don’t you?

The greater the challenge, the more glory He receives when you tell all of what He has done.

What is your “impossible” that you need God to accomplish this year? Please let me know in the comment section below so I can partner with you in praying for that.

Doors to open and opportunities presented for the not-for-profit that I started.

Wow, I'd love to hear more about your non-profit ministry, Tracey. And like Nehemiah, who was burdened about the broken down walls around Jerusalem, God provided EVERYTHING he needed to do the work that God laid on His heart. I'm certain that will be the case for you, as well, as you go to the King and let Him know all you need to get His work done. I am praying for your open doors this morning.

I think all I seem to ask God for is the IMPOSSIBLE (lol) which could be why I am still awaiting the manifestation of His yes!

I run a production company and now want to make feature length films.

    Reply February 18, 2015

Adriene, thanks for your comment. That sounds like a lofty goal but we serve a God who is over all. Nothing is beyond His ability or reach. It will be interesting to see what happens as you honor Him and wait for Him to lift you up in due time. When I wanted to write books years ago, many people thought that was a lofty goal, too. I was often told "It's all about your connections and who you know." Well, when you know God you know THE ONE who can open any door. Keep in touch and let me know how He directs you to your impossible. :)

Thank you, Debbie, for commenting. I know it can be frustrating waiting for healing in God's way and God's timing. But He is still the Great Physician and capable of healing whatever looks impossible.

For a job in an area that utilizes my gifts and talents, which impacts people to realize their potential. I don't want to settle in a job because of financial issues, I want to do my hearts work and more and more it seems I am presented with opportunities where I am settling.

    Reply February 25, 2015

I applaud your desire to not settle in the area of a job, Althea. I see too many women do that because they fear nothing better will come up. I truly believe when we lay our heart's desire before God and ask Him to open a door of opportunity, He will either refine that desire to make it more in line with what He wants or refine us so we will be ready to receive our heart's desire. You -- and your heart's desire -- are in my prayers this evening.

Thank you for the reminder that nothing is too difficult for God:-) Our prayer is for financial. God is so good that He answers that prayer a little every so often when we are not expecting it! Thank you for sharing yours Cindi. I will add them to my prayer list:-)

Yes, Chery. God is SO faithful when it comes to our financial needs. He continues to prove over and over again that as we honor Him, He honors us. Sometimes right in the nick of time. Other times, like you said, when you least expect it. That is a book I'd LOVE to write one day...."Trusting God When Money is Tight."

Please pray for my son whose losing his family to his addiction. This is been ongoing for 20 years now.

    Reply April 8, 2015

Stacy -- Thank you for trusting me with those requests. Yes, I am praying right NOW for healing and restoration in your marriage and for you to clearly see God's will and direction in the days ahead. I am praying for your ears to be tuned to His Holy Spirit and that any advice is filtered through the wisdom of God, not mankind. I am praying also for your son's deliverance from this addiction that is causing chaos and loss in his family. My prayer is that you, personally, will experience peace and confidence from 1 John 5:14-15: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him." Lord, we know that you are the Gos Who Heals and a God of restoration and therefore these requests of Stacy's are according to your desire. We know you hear us and we boldly ask that you will grant those things in the name of Jesus.

I have been a single mom for almost ten years and I would love for God to give a Christian husband. Also give me strength as I am tired

    Reply April 8, 2015

Tina, my prayer for you today is that God will breathe His rest into your life, refreshing you and reviving you for all you need to accomplish day in and day out as a single mom. He knows your needs and I pray your times of refreshing may come. I ask Him, too, to bring a godly husband into your life to help you with this load...in Jesus' name.

I do know I am Blessed. ...Children are lost in this world they know God but choose to believe or use Him as see fit then get mad at Him. I need a home. Friendships are killed...why.? Feel empty even though am actively seeking my Lord and Savior. Finances. Have never had real love except the love of Jesus....Why? How to know what God wants when you are going in a rough valley and you just don't feel His presence.
Can you please explain this? God Bless you and yours.

I am 53 divorced since July 2011 having to start my life over and rebuild a new future for myself. Its been very hard trying to bounce back from a failed 26 year marriage. My prayer needs: Great Job Career w/great pay & benefits, Meet the right people and right opportunities, divine guidance and direction, repair my home and sell it at a profit. I am also praying for a Godly spirited filled husband because I am very lonely/sad/down. I want the man that God wants for me. I have tried dating twice and seems to end up with guys who lie, cheat, not committed, etc. I don't want to settle for the wrong guy. Thank You, Charlene

Cindi...my prayer request is not that unique but it is something I have wanted all of my life....a Godly Christ like husband. I am 55 yrs old and have never been married. This is something I want more than anything else on earth. A HAPPY God Centered marriage. I'm tired of having my heart broken by so many Mr. Wrongs...it is sooooo hard to keep believing that one day God will grant my request. It is so hard not to give up and just settle. I had a man in my life once who was all I could ever ask for but he died after us being together for just a few short months. I desperately want and need someone to love and someone to love me back. Why is this so hard for ME to find when other people find it everyday??? I really do think God has been ignoring me or has forgotten me or He doesn't care about me. Thank you so very much for your prayers and words of wisdom.

    Reply October 26, 2016

Angie: God has not been ignoring you. He is very much aware of the desires of your heart. But I can't help but feel that God wants to be THE ONE you want more than anything else. He wants to fill you with Himself. I know from personal experience, as well as from ministering to women for the past 30 years, that if you look to a man to make you happy and fulfilled you will be disappointed. As godly of a man as he may be, he is still just a man, a sinner who falls short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Look to Jesus as your First Love and He will either bring someone into your life once He can trust your heart to always beat for Him first, or He will make you so happy with HIS love that it won't matter to you anymore than you don't have a man in your life. Either way He will strengthen you and fill the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
