A Letter to Jesus from 1987…

Do you ever stumble upon something from years ago and find that it still touches you today?

I recently found an old  journal I kept during my high school and college years and discovered that what I wrote about my God 30 years ago still applies to His character today.

That tells me that although our situations change throughout the years our God never does.Though we may have forgotten certain heartaches or experiences in which we needed Him, He has not.

I hope this is a gentle reminder to you, too, that His love for you is still constant, His forgiveness is still faithful, and with all that you’ve been through, He is still the Friend who sticks closer than a brother:

(A letter to Jesus from my college journal in 1987)

“Lord, When I’m lonely and want to talk

Let me bring my thoughts to You.

When I’m discouraged ’cause no one’s around

Remind me that You’re always there.

When I look to someone for encouragement

Remind me that You are my Source of Strength.

When I want to be with someone who cares,

Remind me that You are my closest friend.

When I expect others to meet my needs

Remind me only You can satisfy.

When I feel I need some comfort and love

Gently remind me of my Father above.

Just as you and I remember the love we had for a tiny child or a best friend we’ve grown up with through the years, He remembers you and me. And that same love He had for us years ago, He still has today. Be encouraged. You have a friend who has never left your side.

Thanks, Alena. Interestingly, I wrote this a few months before I met my husband. God always has a way of wanting to remind us He is all we need before He brings in anyone else who might compete with Him in our hearts. I know you know that very well. :)

I loved this too! Great encouragement for me. I still have things I struggle with. I struggle with assurance. I have let go of my past but because of it I need assurance. Or as my husband says I need to walk in it. I'm going to keep on keeping on. I'll jot down some encouraging words to the Lord also. Thank you for sharing. I was born that year, on June 28th, 1987. My mom was going to get an abortion with me, but God wanted me here so she ended up keeping me. God bless you Cindi. Keep me in your prayers.

Hi Cindi!! So glad I took a few minutes to read your blog tonight. :-) I've been super busy these last couple weeks but things are getting back to normal again. Praise God! This is powerful. I prayed the prayer as well. It's interesting when we look back into old journals to see prayers or our heart's cry to God. He truly is the only One who can satisfy. I was reading your book "When Women Walk Alone" earlier. It's so packed with God's truth and what I need to hear. I thank God for you and your ministry. Blessings to you and your family!

What a beautiful letter:-) I wish I had know God like that in college. Truth is, it is perfect for right now. I'm going to copy it so I can put it in your devotional. I look forward to starting each day with it before I read from your devotional. You are such a blessing to me Cindi, thank you<3
