If You’re Not Looking Forward to Valentine’s Day…

I understand if you’re not looking forward to Valentine’s Day. If you’re single you might not want to be reminded that you’re alone. If you’re married or in a relationship you might be fearing your expectations will leave you disappointed by the end of the day.

Whatever your particular situation, When God Pursues a Woman's HeartI want to encourage your heart with God’s whispers of love toward you.

Did you know that the Author of Love had YOU on His mind when He said certain things in His Word?  I call those portions of Scripture His “Valentines” to us. Take a look with me at the lovely ways He has told you He loves you:

  • God has given you the romantic card in Jeremiah 31:3: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness.”
  • He has given you  a card about sacrificial love: “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
  • He has given you  a card of encouragement and support: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
  • He has let you know how often He thinks of you, through the Psalmist’s words: “How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand….” (Psalm 139:17).
  • He made sure you knew that He sings over you:  “He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
  • He compares His love for you to the fierce love of a mother and still comes out on top: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast  and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15).
  • He bears the marks of His love for you on His body:  “See? I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me” (Isaiah 49:16).

How much does He love you and me? He has said, in so many words, “Let Me count the ways….”

Would you like to open a card this Valentine’s Day and read of your True Love’s heart for you? Then open your Bible to Psalm 23 and read of how He shepherds your heart and cares for you when you’re tired, restless, fearful or in need of comfort. Or turn to Ephesians 1 and read of all He’s given you once you trusted in Jesus Christ for your salvation.  Or read in John 15 of all that is yours as you abide in Him. Or read of His promise in Revelation 21 to come back for you in all His splendor and glory.

Don’t let another day go by without realizing — and appreciating — just  how much God  pursues your heart. Even if no one else extends toward you on Valentine’s Day, know that He already has. He’s the One. Isn’t it about time you let Him know?

I’d love to hear what you would write to HIM in a Valentine’s Day card.

My Card to God would be:
Thanking Him immensely for all the unconditional love He has poured out to me in widowhood and in the present trials of my present marriage. I love the Lord and could never see my life without Him, He Is my all and I want to be all He has made me to be for His Glory and His kingdom come....I would send back to God all the love, the rainbows, and the clouds warning of the storms to come, the flowers, the rain and all the beauty of the earth He has graciously given us. I'd draw the biggest heart of LOVE in the sky for my Jesus...
